ADI | SnapOne has rolled out the next generation of the Control4 user experience. Control4 X4 is designed to “streamline programming for systems integrators” while also enhance the personalization, ease-of-use, and navigation for end users, the company shared in a statement. The goal of the update, according to ADI | SnapOne, is to reduce the number of dealer service calls while also empowering homeowners and business owners to take more personalized control of their systems.
“The Control4 experience has progressed from a programmed system into an intelligent, adaptable smart living experience,” Jason Winchester, SVP and Chief Product Officer for ADI | Snap One, said in the statement. “X4 introduces a fresh navigation design language and powerful personalization tools like Widgets and Routines, allowing both integrators and end users to fine-tune their automation settings effortlessly. It’s not a replacement for custom programming, but rather an enhancement that enables quick, easy setup and post-installation modifications.”
Several key highlights stand out about the update, including the new naming convention. Gone is the Smart Home OS, and in comes X4. Beyond that, the interface has essentially been rebuilt from the ground up with a new design, quick and easy access personalized routines and widgets.
ADI | SnapOne explained that there are a number of new tools to help integrators during initial setup, including the preferences, schedules, and navigation screens. End users will then have the ability to modify those screens based on their needs and habits or as their use of the system evolves.
The redesigned home screen is intended to minimize scrolling and provide users with quicker access to the devices and controls they need most. The view can be tailored to specific rooms or the entire property, and further customization can allow the user to add things like real-time surveillance camera feeds, frequently used controls, and custom Widgets and Room View screens. Diving further, each Room View screen can be customized with its own settings, allowing for a truly personalized experience for the end user.
“We know that end users want even greater simplicity, more intuitive access to rich features, and modern aesthetics all in one convenient package,” added Winchester. “As a result, we’re continuing to invest and innovate to meet these expectations through advancements like Control4 X4.”
The rollout will also bring support for Apple HomeKit, a feature that ADI | SnapOne said has been among the most requested by consumers. Users will now be able to control their Control4 systems via Apple CarPlay, iPhone Control Center, and Mac Desktop. The update also means support for Siri voice commands, Scenes and other Apple-related control functions.
Control4 X4 will be on display during InfoComm in Orlando, June 11-13.
