Mergers and acquisitions are nothing new for Lutron. The major lighting and shading brand has made a few splashes over the years, perhaps most notably acquiring Ketra back in 2018, followed quickly by Limelight in early 2019. But the Lutron M&A news released this morning marks a first for the brand. In a statement, Lutron announced that it has acquired Orluna LED Technologies Ltd., a U.K.-based manufacturer of high-end architectural lighting fixtures—it’s the company’s first acquisition outside of North America.
“This strategic move strengthens Lutron’s commitment to delivering exceptional lighting solutions, further expanding our global portfolio to meet the needs of our customers,” Ben Bard, Vice-President, Luxury Residential Business at Lutron Electronics, said in the statement. “Orluna’s broad and elegant fixture portfolio, combined with Lutron solutions, will raise the bar for quality and design. Together, we will drive innovation and transform the way spaces are illuminated, blending technology and aesthetics seamlessly.”
Orluna was founded in 2010 and has built a reputation for developing high-quality products often found in luxury residential and commercial applications. Their portfolio includes a host of uplights, downlights, and surface and track fixtures. Lutron said the brand’s sleek and compact architectural fixtures will complement their existing range of advanced lighting, shading, and control solutions, both aesthetically and functionally.
Lutron said the move also reinforces their own commitment to delivering comprehensive lighting, shading, and control solutions to global markets—beyond just the U.K. Orluna product is currently available in a number of global regions including the U.K., Europe, Asia Pacific, and the Middle East. It’s not currently sold in North America, though that could change.
“As we enter a world where luminaires and controls continue to merge, we are delighted to team up with the leading lighting, shading and controls partner, Lutron,” Andrew Kilborn, Managing Director at Orluna, said in the statement. “Lutron and Orluna are both family-run companies with a similar long-term outlook. We look forward to this next chapter where, together, we will create beautiful interiors through the harmony of light whilst maintaining consistent loyalty to our customers.”
Lutron said it will maintain Orluna’s U.K.-based operations.
“This acquisition supports Lutron’s long-term strategy to grow our presence in key regions and enhance our position in the global luxury residential and hospitality lighting markets,” Javier Segovia, Lutron’s Vice-President of Sales and Services for the U.K. and Europe, said in the statement. “Our team looks forward to working with our shared customers on this next chapter.”
