Puro Sound Labs Improves ‘Healthy-Hearing’ Headphones for Kids

Dave Russell created Puro Sound Labs to address what he calls “the world health epidemic of Noise-Induced Hearing Loss” after he and his wife became aware that their daughter had hearing damage at a young age, likely as a result of listening with her headphones too loud.

Following the success of its original BT-2200 kid’s volume-limited headphones, the company has launched a new line of studio-grade wireless headphones for kids, featuring active noise cancellation and the latest Bluetooth profiles for CD-like quality wireless audio, a high-sensitivity microphone for taking calls or gaming with friends, and up to 16 hours of active battery life.

In noisier environments, PuroQuiet’s Active Noise Cancellation feature analyzes the ambient noise and uses digital signal processing to further reduce competing background noise by 22 dB.

The new headphones also employ many of the features the BT-2200 model, including high-quality aluminum construction, plush noise-isolating ear-pads, the clarity of the Puro Balanced Response curve, and digital signal processing (DSP) enabled volume-limiting to prevent damaging volume levels.

“Studies show that listening to music above 85dB for extended periods of time can cause permanent hearing damage, and the louder the volume, the quicker the damage can occur,” noted Puro Sound Labs founder and CEO, Dave Russell. “We want kids to enjoy great-sounding music, but we also want to be sure that they are listening at safe levels. We’re excited to extend the performance level of our Healthy Ears products with Active Noise Cancellation for even great ambient noise reduction and improved sound quality.”

Puro Sound Lab’s process continues with the Puro Balanced Response, a frequency response curve that matches the natural sound reproduced in a perfectly tuned listening room. As a result, the company says, music vocals and movie or game dialogue is heard clearly against the full spectrum of audio. And thanks to the advanced digital signal processing, the volume limiting at 85dB is completely imperceptible and natural, according to the company. Listeners won’t need to increase audio volume, and won’t notice that they can’t increase it beyond the point that would damage their hearing.

Puro Sound Lab’s PuroQuiet wireless kids headphones will be available for sale at Amazon.com, Amazon.ca1 and PuroSound.com starting in late November for only $199.99 in both pink with a white headband, and blue with a black headband.
