Less than a week ago Aqara released their new Matter protocol compatible Hub M3. (You can find the article I wrote on the Hub M3 here). One of the limitations of the Hub M3, that was highlighted in the article, was its very limited support for third-party devices. Aqara has just released a firmware update for the Hub M3 that addresses that limitation.
With the new firmware installed, the Hub M3 now works with a wide array of Matter compatible devices including contact sensors, occupancy sensors, light sensors, on/off light (wall) switches, dimmer (wall) switches, thermostats, on/off smart plugs, and Matter bridges.
Due to limited resources, Aqara hasn’t tested all third-party Matter devices with the Hub M3. They still consider third-party device support a “lab feature” and warn that interoperability issues could arise.
However, this is a major step forward and shows Aqara’s commitment to quickly adding additional features to the product.
