Known as one of the go-to content providing platforms for custom integrators, Kaleidescape has expanded its product line in an effort to make their system accessible to an even wider range of potential clients. The new Strato E player, available now through authorized Kaleidescape dealers, is defined by the brand as an entry-level 4K movie player that’s designed for residential, marine, and commercial theater systems.
The Strato E supports reference 4K video output with SDR, HDR10, and Dolby Vision, as well as lossless multi-channel and spatial object-based audio, including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. It effectively sits in the middle of the Kaleidescape lineup, between the flagship Strato V and the Strato M reference 2K player.
“Our goal is to bring Kaleidescape to more customers by offering a range of movie players that fit the needs of a variety of projects,” Tayloe Stansbury, chairman and CEO of Kaleidescape, said in a statement announcing the launch. “Strato E stays true to our commitment to performance and quality, with a lower cost of entry.”
As a standalone system, the Strato E provides a single playback zone with 480GB of solid-state storage (roughly enough for six feature-length, 4K films), half the storage amount of the flagship Strato V. Both systems, though, are able to download a full film in about 10 minutes over a wired gigabit Ethernet connection and can automatically offload watched movies 48 hours after playback to keep things tidy.
Like with other Kaleidescape servers, the Strato E is scalable to allow for more storage and zones of entertainment in a client’s home. And, the server connects to the Kaleidescape movie store, the world’s only digital movie collection with lossless audio and full reference video quality that is packed with thousands of 4K and HD titles for purchase or rent, including movies, TV series, and concerts.
Content is always downloaded onto a Kaleidescape server, never streamed, eliminating the possibility of buffering issues or loss of quality.
