Shelly Expands Portfolio with Z-Wave Long Range Products

Shelly Group, one of the leaders in IoT and smart-building solutions, is now shipping a whole host of new devices that support the Z-Wave Long Range (ZWLR) protocol. The expanded lineup now delivers “unprecedented range” while supporting thousands of devices in a single hub. All of that, while still delivering on the functionality and simplicity that both consumers and integrators have come to depend on from Shelly devices, the company explained.

The company’s Wave products perform adequately within the home. But, by adding support for ZWLR, these newer versions of Shelly’s Wave line will be able to handle some of the more difficult residential challenges that smart homes systems tend to face, including dense building materials, thick walls, and long distances—all of which play a role in reducing or downright eliminating signal strength. ZWLR, which is backwards compatible with existing Z-Wave devices, supports up to 4000 devices in one network and can reach distances of up to 1.5 miles in ideal conditions.

“ZWLR strengthens the reliability and reach of our smart home solutions,” Leon Kralj, CTO of Shelly Group, said in a statement. “With extended range capabilities and low power consumption, ZWLR enables seamless connectivity across vast distances, outdoor areas, large properties with multiple buildings or even an expansive campus. By adding ZWLR to our expansive portfolio, Shelly now offers a comprehensive suite of connectivity options that empowers users to select the best protocol for every application, maximizing performance, scalability, and long-term value.”

At launch, there are nine new Shelly products that now ship with ZWLR: Shelly Wave Plug, Shelly Wave 1, Shelly Wave 1PM, Shelly Wave 2PM, Shelly Wave 1 Mini, Shelly Wave 1PM Mini, Shelly Wave PM Mini, Shelly Wave H&T, and Shelly Wave Motion. Additional ZWLR products from Shelly are slated to become available later this year, including: Shelly Wave i4, Shelly Wave i4 DC, Shelly Wave Pro 1, Shelly Wave Pro 1PM, Shelly Wave Pro 2, Shelly Wave Pro 2PM, Shelly Wave Pro 3, and Shelly Wave Pro Shutter.

To fully unlock long-range operation, Shelly recommends pairing any of their products witha  ZWLR-capable controller like Home Assistant (2025.5+ with an 800-series USB stick), Hubitat Elevation C-8 / C-8 Pro, or HomeSeer HomeTroller G8.
