Shelly Launching Next-Generation Products at CES

I’ve written other articles about the smart products that Shelly makes and how they can be used in a smart home. For those that aren’t familiar with Shelly, they manufacture a wide range of IoT devices that solve a wealth of problems in a smart home. Shelly offers a variety of:

  • Smart relays for turning devices on/off.  The relays include the ability to sense a contact closure input and optionally operate the relay based on it.  Some of their relays also include power monitoring.
  • Modules for dimming lights and controlling RGBW light strips
  • Smart power monitors
  • Smart light bulbs
  • Smart sensors for motion, temperature, humidity, water (flood), door/window open/close, natural gas, and LP gas

Shelly smart home products are manufactured by Shelly Group, a provider of IoT and smart building solutions based in Sofia, Bulgaria. Shelly Group introduced its Shelly line of smart home IoT products in 2018. The complete Shelly line of smart home products available in the U.S. can be found on their website here.

At this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Shelly is launching its new Gen3 series of products. The Gen3 series are based on Shelly’s new microcontroller, which includes 8MB of memory which improves device performance and has enabled Shelly to add new capabilities to their products.

The first new capability available with Gen3 is “virtual components.” This will transform how users manage and control third-party devices. Within the Shelly Smart Control app, users can now create virtual devices, integrating non-Shelly products into a unified control system. This feature provides streamlined control of all users’ smart devices, regardless of brand, from a single interface.

All Gen3 products are also designed to be upgradeable to the new Matter standard for connectivity between smart home devices.

Shelly H&T Gen3

The Shelly H&T Gen3 sensor measures temperature and humidity in a smart home. The device includes an e-paper graphic display that makes it very easy to read. And, like all Shelly devices, it integrates with a wide variety of smart home platforms including Alexa, Google Assistant, SmartThings, URC, Home Assistant, Hubitat, Control4 (using the driver developed by Chowmain Software), and Crestron (using the driver I’ve written that is hosted on my GitHub here.)

Shelly Mini Gen3 Series

The Mini line of Shelly Gen3 relays have all the same capabilities of other Gen3 devices but in a space-saving format that makes it easier to install them in tight spaces where larger devices won’t fit. The Mini line is 35% smaller than equivalent Shelly Plus devices which are already significantly smaller than Shelly’s standard Plus line relays. This allows the new Mini line of Shelly Gen3 relays to fit in very small spaces. Showing at CES are:

  • Shelly 1PM Mini Gen3 – Control and measure the power consumption of appliances up to eight amps
  • Shelly PM Mini Gen3 – Measures the power consumptions of connected appliances
  • Shelly 1 Gen3 – Controls appliances up to eight amps with its internal relay

Shelly Qubino Wave Plug US

Shelly Qubino is a line of smart home devices from Shelly that are based on the Z-Wave wireless communications protocol. This makes them compatible with a wide range of smart home platforms. At CES, Shelly is introducing a smart plug that is part of Shelly’s Qubino line to the U.S. market. The Shelly Qubino Wave Plug US can be used to control a wide range of home appliances and other equipment allowing a homeowner to upgrade their existing appliances to smart appliances.
