Somfy, the manufacturer of motors for interior window coverings and exterior solar protections, has created a new ecosystem of products using Zigbee 3.0 technology. This line of Somfy products will be available in North America in Q3 later this year to power and control shades, blinds, and curtains.

The Zigbee 3.0 protocol is an interoperable, globally adopted and secure IoT solution used to connect smart home devices to a consistent network and language. Zigbee creates an ecosystem of products that work seamlessly together, and that ecosystem now includes products from Somfy North America, easing the integration process and increasing comfort for end users.

“Following this launch, the new line of Somfy motors will be able to connect with Zigbee 3.0, Somfy RTS, and future smart home innovations,” said David Parrett, VP marketing at Somfy North America. “This platform allows our products to be more widely adopted, enabling a new game-changing ecosystem we call Somfy Smart Shading. This will reinforce Somfy North America as the leader in the market, with new tools for fabricators, dealers and installers to set us apart.”

This new ecosystem delivers a scalable solution that makes it easier for leading smart home products to connect on a single platform. Zigbee 3.0 is more reliable, consumes less energy and eliminates single points of failure with its self-healing mesh network. In addition, bi-directional communication allows for real-time data like battery level, shade position and status to be securely accessed from anywhere and offers more information for a more seamless experience.

To continue enhancing the smart home experience, Somfy North America will be releasing two new professional tools later this year that will make it easier to configure motors as well as provide after-sales service and support. The TaHoma pro app is designed for OEMs and Installers to simplify the configuration and management of the Somfy Zigbee network. The second tool is Serv-e-Go, an all-in-one remote monitoring and troubleshooting tool for the Somfy Zigbee ecosystem. This app will allow dealers to securely access installations in order to provide remote service to clients.

This new line of products seeks to offer more opportunities for scalability, productivity and greater peace of mind for fabricator and installation partners as well as increased confidence and satisfaction from end users.
