SwitchBot’s recently released Air Purifier and Air Purifier Table have just received a software update to add native support for the Matter Smart Home protocol.
I recently wrote about these SwitchBot products in my article “The Best Smart Robots for Cleaning Your Home.” Briefly, the SwitchBot Air Purifier and Air Purifier Table can not only remove dust and other pollutants from the air in your home, they are specifically designed with pets in mind.
- Unlike many other air purifiers, instead of a grid of small holes that allow the passage of air to the purifier’s filter, these SwitchBot air purifiers have a pattern of long, narrow openings that allow pet hair suspended in the air to be captured in the purifier. Additionally, these openings are designed so they won’t trap a pet’s paws.
- The filter in these purifiers is made up of three layers. The first is a washable pre-filter that captures floating pet hair. Second, the purifier includes a HEPA filter layer that can capture particulates as small as smoke and bacteria. Finally, there is a carbon filter layer that can capture pet odors as well as VOCs.
- An included diffuser pad can be used with essential oils to help hide odors in a home. Pet owners need to be careful to choose essential oils that are not harmful to pets.
- These purifiers are capped with a urine-proof top that pets can sit on.

- These purifiers can handle large indoor spaces. Each only takes 7.2 minutes to purify a 215 sq. ft. room and can purify an 1800 sq. ft. house in one hour.
- A built-in PM2.5 particulate sensor triggers the purifier’s LED lights to change between blue (very good), green (good), yellow (moderate), and red (bad).
- The lights in the SwitchBot purifiers can be set to automatically dim at night.
Matter
According to Wikipedia, “Matter is a freely available connectivity standard for smart home and IoT (Internet of Things) devices. It aims to improve interoperability and compatibility between different manufacturers and security, and always allowing local control as an option.” Matter is supported by Apple, Amazon, Google, SmartThings, and many other manufacturers of smart home devices.
The addition of native support for the Matter connectivity standard to the SwitchBot Air Purifier and Air Purifier Table is a major step forward for consumers. It allows them to seamlessly integrate the operation of these SwitchBot products with smart home ecosystems from Apple, Amazon, Google, Samsung, and other smart home hub manufacturers that support the standard.
