Why Does Crestron Recommend Edge Devices for Home Audio?

Regardless of brand, residential AV pros have plenty of clever ways to integrate devices like record players, cassette decks, karaoke machines, and more into an audio-over-IP network. However, it typically requires additional software drivers, more physical products to bridge the connections, more time and energy for technicians to install, and higher costs for homeowners. Not to mention, compatibility issues between separate audio brands can lead to a greater chance of system errors and equipment malfunctions. That means more system downtime, more costs, and more frustration.

As an AV provider for homeowners and families, the goal is simple — deliver easy entertainment everywhere. With Creston’s new Edge Devices, that’s just what you get.

You’ve likely heard the term “edge device” — simply put, it’s a device at the boundary of a network, acting as an entry point for data.

Does your client use their phone as the go-to music streaming device? Do they enjoy entertaining with a bit of karaoke or a live DJ? Do they have a cherished vinyl record collection? In each case, Crestron’s got a simple solution.

Introducing the Crestron DM NAX Audio Edge Devices

From the vinyl revival to the comeback of cassette tapes, AV providers need to be armed with various solutions. With the diverse needs of today’s homeowners in mind, Crestron has created four new audio-over-IP solutions, the Crestron DM NAX Audio Edge Devices.

With Creston’s Edge Devices + Home OS

  • Bring ANY audio source into an audio-over-IP system
  • Sources are automatically identified by Crestron Home OS and onboarded to the network
  • Sources can be configured to personal taste in minutes
  • Compatibility with DM NVX, DM NAX, AES67, and Dante audio-over-IP systems.
  • Each solution offers straightforward installation and connectivity.

Four Devices, a World of Options

DM-NAX-BTIO-1G

The DM-NAX-BTIO-1G is a wall plate with Bluetooth communications and analog inputs and outputs that allows you to easily add Bluetooth audio to any DM NAX Audio-over-IP, DM NVX AV-over-IP, Dante® audio network, or AES67 AoIP system. Since Android OS users don’t have the benefit of solutions such as AirPlay software, Bluetooth connectivity is a fantastic option to source audio to this wall plate. The DM-NAX-BTIO-1G’s flexible form factor can be either put in a wall plate or surface mounted and hidden away — just a single network connection allows you to control and manage the device through the Crestron Home OS.

Key Features

  • Powered via PoE, no local AC required
  • Stereo Bluetooth input for streaming from your local device
  • Stereo DM NAX or Dante or AES67 Audio-over-IP output accessible from the network
  • High-visibility backlit LCD and quick access front-panel controls
  • Setup/reset button
  • Single-gang housing

The device also features a stereo analog 3.5mm line in/out, allowing easy integration with your local audio system.
