The EL-SC-100 from Nortek Security & Control is a new, affordably priced, ELAN controller for media room and entry-level home control. Leveraging Dante, the IP Amplifier system lets integrators reduce installation costs and complete multi-room audio projects faster and more easily.
“This new controller expands opportunities for integrators in multiple ways,” said ELAN Product Manager Jeff Shaw. “The SC-100 is ideal for improving the media room control experience, and its Z-Wave integration makes it a robust and scalable intelligent home control choice for production home builders.”
With the EL-SC-ZW antenna, the ELAN SC-100 is an integrated Z-Wave gateway, which eliminates the need for dealers to add third-party hardware to control Z-Wave devices. The controller also features an on-screen display option that gives users the ability to control and manage their home right from the TV.
“The new ELAN controller adds intelligent control at the entry-level price point,” Shaw concluded. “It’s part of our expanding suite of intelligent solutions designed to meet the needs of integrators and their customers.”
ELAN IP Amplifiers
Improving both the integrator and end-user intelligent home experience, Nortek Security & Control also has introduced a new line of ELAN IP Amplifiers. Shaw says that the new amplifiers enhance the whole home audio experience by delivering audio over existing networks.
“Distributed multi-zone audio traditionally requires long speaker cables that run back to the equipment rack,” Shaw explained. “The new ELAN Audio over IP solution simplifies and decentralizes audio installations by eliminating these long speaker cable runs and expanding multi-room audio possibilities.”
With primary TV sources moving to set-top streaming boxes (Apple TV, Roku), the need to incorporate that audio in the whole house audio system is growing. The ELAN Audio over IP line – including multi-channel amplifiers and local source pre-amps – leverages Dante digital audio networking to give installers the ability to make use of these local sources in multiple rooms.
The audio is then delivered between devices over the network, replacing expensive analog cabling with low-cost Cat-5e, Cat-6, or fiber optic cable – simple, lightweight, and economical solutions. While Dante integrates media and control for the entire system over a single IP network, the ELAN solution can also be used as a single chassis without the need for Dante.
“Projects with audio zones that are physically separated – a pool house, for example – can be part of the whole house audio system by connecting virtually,” Shaw added. “It is no longer required for dealers to run cabling apart from the existing network connection.”
“ELAN Audio over IP is making installations easier and faster, thus reducing costs,” Shaw concluded. “This is another of our intelligent solutions designed to meet the needs of integrators and their customers. We look forward to sharing these solutions with everyone at CEDIA in Booth 2013!”
