The kitchen is getting a little smarter thanks to Sharp’s new microwave that features Wi-Fi connectivity and Amazon Alexa voice control compatibility.
With its slogan “Simply Better Living,” Sharp wants its appliances to help improve customers’ lives through the latest technology and a dedication to “innovation, quality, value, and design.”

The Model SMC1139FS microwave (available at select retailers and Sharp’s e-commerce store in two sizes for $149.99 and $169.99) is capable of performing more than 70 voice commands and 50 more food presets depending on the model.
In addition to the Alexa-enabled features, both models are also specifically tuned to achieve optimal popping results from Orville Redenbacher’s Classic Microwave Popcorn. This can be done by touching the “Popcorn” button or using an Amazon Echo device or the Alexa app.
The microwave does need a companion Alexa-enabled device to use voice settings.
Not Just Smart Microwaves
Sharp’s SMC1139FS microwave joins a host of other smart kitchen appliances, from other manufacturers, featuring smart speaker compatibility and internet connectivity.
LG’s ProBake Convection Stove, for example, is self-cleaning and offers a gliding rack to make it easier to check and remove the food inside. Its design ensures even cooking on each rack and can be used with Alexa, Google, and SmartThinQ control.
The Traeger Grills Ironwood 650 Wood Pellet Grill and Smoker comes with Alexa and WiFIRE Technology. Traeger has an app that lets the user control the grill from anywhere, and Alexa capability means consumers can use voice commands, if preferred.
Refrigerators have boasted “smart” features longer than most kitchen appliances. One of the latest additions is the Samsung Family Hub refrigerator, which is an option for bigger families. The Hub uses Bixby as it’s voice assistant and features the option to see inside your refrigerator from anywhere. The front screen also lets users manage family calendars and stay connected.
