The Consumer Electronic Show (CES) is just about the largest tech show on the planet. Each year, hundreds of thousands of people gather in Las Vegas to experience the latest technologies and innovations across a number of sectors. It’s fitting that the event takes place in early January, as it often acts as a predictor and pace setter for the coming year.

One clear trend at this year’s CES is the proliferation of smart home technology. In fact, the event is paying special attention to this industry. According to their own website, “Homes are getting smarter and more efficient, accelerated by smartphones and tablets interacting with connected objects and devices. From basic security monitoring to smart appliances, lighting, window coverings, irrigation, entertainment systems, and more, CES is the place to learn about the future of the smart home technology.”
A number of events and discussions at CES are dedicated to smart home technology. From “Connecting Objects, Homes and Cities” and “New Habit: Smart Speakers & A Voice-Activated Life” to “Smart Home Applications to Improve Well-Being,” there are a variety of opportunities to learn the latest in voice, security, smart technology, and more.
Attendees will be able to visit myriad exhibitors (i.e., Fibaro, Nortek Security & Control, Ring, Honeywell) showing off products for every room of the house. Some of the big players will be in attendance as well, like GE and Google.
At the Pixel 3 event in October 2018, GE announced that its C by GE bulbs were the first to carry Made by Google certification with Google Home functionality built-in right out of the box. At this year’s CES, the company will be showcasing many more products in the C by GE line. The company will be releasing full color lights with many different color options, available in a handful of configurations.
Additionally, it will be showing off the GE light switch, which will allow for remote dimming, a smart plug, and motion sensor that controls the room’s lighting via movement and ambient light. All of these products will be compatible with Google Home devices, Amazon Alexa, and Apple’s HomeKit.
GE’s compatibility with smart hub technology shows how pinnacle voice integration has become. In general, voice tech will likely be a main attraction of CES 2019, paving the way for smart home technology throughout the event.
