4 Audio/Visual Technologies for Your Entertainment

July 11th, 2019 Residential Tech Today

Two new products from OSD Audio enhance the streaming digital entertainment experience. Based on Class D amplifier technology (50 watts x 2-channels of solid power; 200 watts peak power), the Nero STREAM XD Wireless DAC/Streaming Amplifier gives users a compact but dynamic 2.1-channel wired and wireless streaming music solution. The amp’s wireless streaming solutions include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 with aptX. OSD Audio’s Nero Studio5 speakers were designed for a true monitor-grade performance at a budget-pleasing price. STREAM XD $299.95. MSRP Studio5 $199.95/pair

The all-new speaker design employed in Atlantic Technology’s 8600e LR features internally braced non-resonant MDF cabinets housing seven new drivers configured in a D’Appolito/M-T-M array; four 8-inch fiberglass woofers, two 5.25-inch fiberglass mid-drivers, and an advanced 1-inch aluminum/magnesium dome tweeter with a powerful neodymium magnet structure. The midrange and tweeter drivers are internally isolated within their own airtight sub-enclosure. The cross-over is a 4th order Butterworth asymmetrical time-aligned Linkwitz-Riley design with bi-wire inputs. $2,599 each

Atlona is now offering a Dolby Vision feature option for its OmniStream AV over IP platform. The new capability enables 4K Dolby Vision-enhanced video, at 60 Hz with 4:2:2 chroma subsampling and 12-bit color resolution, to be distributed over standard Gigabit Ethernet data networks. Available via download, the new capability is available for single-channel OMNI-121, dual-channel OMNI-122, and OMNI-521 networked AV decoders. Free download

An IMAX Enhanced firmware update for AudioControl cinema products enables the Concert AVR-7 and AVR-9 receivers and the Maestro M5 and M9 preamp/processors to feature DTS:X immersive audio decoding that is optimized to properly reproduce the full dynamic range of IMAX theatrical sound mixes available in IMAX Enhanced content. This proprietary IMAX audio mix is translated for home theater environments and exclusively delivered using a special variant of the DTS:X codec technology. Free with Firmware Update
