Version 2.0 of PowerShades’ TruePoE automated window shades offer new features and benefits, including indoor shade sizes up to 19 feet, quieter motors, and 13 times more processing power.

The official unveiling of PoE 2.0 shades will take place at CEDIA Expo 2023 in Denver, September 7-9, 2023.

These new automated window shades, powered by a reliable, quiet PoE motor, bring increased flexibility, ease of installation, and potential cost savings to Powershades’ automated window coverings.

“Since their introduction, our PoE automated shades have been on the leading technology,” said Ryan Chacon, PowerShades president. “Now, with PoE 2.0, our customers are able to do even more with the fast, convenient, and cost-saving power of PoE. We can provide coverage for bigger windows, offer more features and functionality, deliver library-level quiet, and much more. Version 2.0 is really taking the world of automated shades to another level.”

Other benefits of the new PoE 2.0 shades include up to 6Nm torque capability, which means that PowerShades can now manufacture its custom PoE shades to offers a maximum shade size of up to 19 feet (maximum size subject to fabric weight and thickness).

PowerShades’ TRUEPoE version 2.0 shades require only 5 watts to power a shade, unlike competitors whose PoE motors may demand 30 watts. More torque than competitors combined with dramatically less energy consumption means unmatched energy efficiency, according to the company.

PoE 2.0 shades also feature upgraded CPUs and electronics, including 13x processing power, with ARM Cortex M7 technology, and 10 times more code space for enhanced features and performance now and in the future.

Additional features include more dry-contact functions, including “Stop” and “Favorite,” enhanced networking stack will enable new features such as VLAN Tagging capable and IPV6 support, and a built-in web server offering configuration of motor and limits, modification of network setting, programmable dry-contact functionality, and advanced diagnostics.

The new Version 2.0 of PowerShades’ TruePoE shades will continue to offer all of the benefits of the company’s initial product. As with the original PoE version of Powershades’ automated shades, a single run of Cat-5 cable provides both power and communication. The use of a single network cable means that there is no proprietary hard wiring necessary. Also, since the new PoE motor is low voltage (under 50V DC), it does not require the services of a licensed electrician or special certifications, reducing installation expense and time.

With power coming from a single, central source, more information can be transferred on the network cable while improving reliability over traditional RF solutions. These PoE shades are also designed to be extremely flexible; additional sensors can be added to the motor to meet current and future customer needs.

PowerShades’ PoE automated window shades deliver the same benefits of the company’s RF automated shades, including cloud connectivity for smartphone/tablet/PC control; the ability to develop and deploy groups, scenes and schedules across multiple facilities; easy and intuitive limit setting; soft start and stop; favorite position setting; and low power consumption.

Customers will have the option of adding a PoE 2.0 motor to any new PowerShades indoor product. All window shades are fully customized, allowing customers to pick from a wide variety of fabrics, power options and styles.

PowerShades’ PoE automated shades are compatible with a range of leading home and industrial automation systems, including Amazon Alexa, BondBridge, RTI, Google Home, SmartThings, Crestron, ELAN, Control4, and URC.
